The LED butterfly lamp (TC-DDEL) replaces the traditional 16W GR10q 4-pin butterfly fluorescent lamp with half the power consumption. Works with both direct 230V mains voltage and existing ballasts — the LED starter is included with the lamp. Suitable for ceiling fixtures and housings with a GR10q base. 3500K neutral white light (75% daylight).

Compatibility and installation

Replaces: 16W GR10q 4-pin butterfly fluorescent lamp (TC-DDEL/TC-T). Two installation methods:

  • With an existing ballast: if the fixture has a functioning electronic or magnetic ballast, install the LED butterfly lamp and replace the starter with the LED starter included in the package. The ballast remains in place.
  • Direct 230V: if you wish to remove the ballast entirely, bypass it and connect 230V directly to the GR10q base. Requires wiring modifications and an electrician.

Dimming: this model is non-dimmable.

Installation checklist:

  1. Check that the old lamp base is GR10q (4-pin butterfly base) — not a 2D base.
  2. Replace the traditional starter with the LED starter included in the package.
  3. If you wish to bypass the ballast, have a qualified electrician perform the wiring modification.
  4. Use in dry indoor spaces — IP20 protection.

Does this replace a 16W GR10q butterfly fluorescent lamp?

Yes. The 8W LED butterfly lamp produces a luminous flux of 1000 lm — equivalent to a 16W traditional GR10q 4-pin butterfly fluorescent lamp. The savings are approximately 50% in energy, and the lifespan of the LED is 3–5 times longer (up to 30,000 h vs. 10,000 h for a fluorescent lamp).

Is the included LED starter mandatory?

Yes, if you install the lamp with the old ballast. A traditional starter provides the fluorescent lamp with a high-voltage ignition pulse that an LED lamp cannot withstand — this would burn out the LED. The LED starter bypasses the ignition pulse and allows the lamp to operate safely with the ballast. Always install the LED starter before the LED plug-in lamp.

Can I bypass the choke entirely?

Yes. The lamp works both with a ballast and directly on 230V mains voltage. Bypassing the ballast requires rewiring and an electrician — do not attempt to do it yourself. A bypassed system is more energy-efficient in the long run, as ballast losses are eliminated.

Is the lamp dimmable?

No. This model is not dimmable — do not use with a dimmer. Most GR10q butterfly lamps (both fluorescent and LED) are not dimmable, as the ballast system and traditional control electronics do not reliably support dimming.
