Compatibility and installation

Compatible circular lamps

This driver is specifically designed for Ledvance's LED T5 External circular lamps:

May also be suitable for other Ledvance LED products requiring a 150–700 mA constant current. Please check the lamp's data sheet for compatibility.

Current selection via DIP switch

The output current is selected using the DIP switches on the driver housing before installation. Select the current according to the lamp's data sheet — incorrect current will reduce the lamp's lifespan or cause it to malfunction. LED T5 External 11.6W typically uses approx. 350 mA, 21.5W approx. 700 mA.

DALI control vs Push-Dim

  • DALI-2: digital system control — suitable for larger installations where lighting is managed centrally (building automation, lighting time scheduling)
  • Push-Dim: standard push-button — simple solution for smaller locations; press to switch on/off, hold to dim

The same driver supports both control methods, so you can choose the application without new hardware.

Applications

  • Protection class I and II luminaires
  • SELV installations indoors
  • Emergency lighting systems (DC-compatible)
  • Cove lighting
  • Offices, schools, storage areas

Safety

  • All electrical connections must be made by a professional
  • Risk of electric shock — disconnect mains power before installation
  • Do not open the housing
  • SELV voltage (under 60 V) is safe for the lamp and installation

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

What is DALI-2 and why is certification important?

DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) is an international lighting control standard. DALI-2 is a newer version that provides more precise compatibility between devices from different manufacturers.

DALI-2 certification means:

  • Compatibility: a certified driver works with any DALI-2 compliant control system
  • Functionality: supports parts 251 (addressable), 252 (dimming), and 253 (color temperature control) of the standard
  • Quality: certification guarantees that the driver has been tested in accordance with the standard

In practice, this simplifies system integration and ensures that the driver will function correctly with future updates as well.

What is adjusted with the DIP switch?

DIP switches are small switches on the driver housing used to select the output current before installation. Settings:

  • Secondary current: 150 mA – 700 mA, adjustable in 50 mA increments (using DIP switch combinations)
  • Adjust according to lamp requirements: check the lamp's data sheet for the required current

Typical settings for Ledvance LED T5 External ring lamps:

  • LED T5 External 11.6W → approx. 350 mA
  • LED T5 External 21.5W → approx. 700 mA

Set the switches before installation — adjustment is not easy once the driver is attached to the luminaire.

Can the Push-Dim function be used without a DALI system?

Yes. Push-Dim means that a standard mains-voltage push-button is used for control. There is no need for a DALI system or a specialized controller — a simple switch is sufficient.

Functions:

  • Short press: switches the light on or off
  • Long press: dims the light steplessly (1–100%)

This is a good solution for smaller spaces (homes, a single office room) where a full DALI system would be overkill. You can add a DALI system later without changing the driver — the same driver supports both.

Why must this specific driver be chosen for the lamp instead of a cheaper alternative?

Ledvance LED T5 External ring lamps are designed to work only with Ledvance's own DALI drivers. LED drivers from other manufacturers may:

  • Prevent operation entirely — the lamp will not turn on
  • Cause flickering — the current waveform is not compatible with the LED circuit board
  • Damage the lamp — due to incorrect current or voltage
  • Void the warranty — due to the use of incompatible equipment

Ledvance has designed the lamp and driver to work together. Any cost savings from using a different driver are very likely to be less than the cost of replacing the lamp if it becomes damaged. This is a mandatory combination.
