The SPL Lighting oven lamp is a heat-resistant incandescent bulb that withstands the high temperatures of an oven. 230 V mains voltage, E27 screw base, and 60 W power — suitable for oven light fixtures where the bulb must withstand a constant temperature of 300 °C. The clear model provides bright illumination of the oven interior.

230 V mains voltage, E27 base. Heat resistance 300 °C. For oven light use only. A short service life is typical for oven lamps — keep a spare bulb at home.

Compatibility and installation

E27 — the most common oven lamp base

E27 is a common screw base — the same as a traditional Edison incandescent bulb. This is more common in oven lamps than low-voltage GY6.35 models. Check your oven's user manual for the required base type and power rating.

Heat resistance 300 °C

Standard incandescent bulbs are designed for an operating temperature of about 100–150 °C and will be damaged inside an oven. Oven lamps are built with special materials that withstand a constant temperature of 300 °C. Never use a standard bulb in an oven — it can cause the bulb to melt, shatter, or create a fire hazard.

Low voltage or 230 V?

There are two types of oven lamps:

  • 230 V (this one): connects directly to the oven's mains, E27 base
  • 12 V: requires a transformer, GY6.35 or G9 base — e.g., 12V GY6.35 oven lamp

Check your oven's manual for the required model. Older ovens generally use the 230 V E27 model, while newer ones often feature 12 V GY6.35 models.

Service life — typical for an incandescent bulb

The service life of an incandescent bulb is typically 1000–2000 hours. In oven use, this corresponds to several years of operation, as the oven light is only on during use — a typical household's oven usage is less than an hour a day. LED oven lamps are coming to the market, but their heat resistance is still limited, so the incandescent bulb remains the standard solution.

Installation checklist

  1. Check your oven's user manual for bulb base and power requirements (E27, max 60 W)
  2. Allow the oven to cool down completely before changing the bulb
  3. Disconnect the oven from the mains (for safety reasons)
  4. Remove the oven lamp cover glass (usually screw-off)
  5. Remove the old bulb and install the new one
  6. Reattach the cover securely
  7. Reconnect the oven to the mains and test the light

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

Can a regular light bulb be used in an oven?

No. Ordinary light bulbs are designed for an operating temperature of approximately 100–150 °C and will melt or be damaged at oven temperatures (up to over 250 °C).

Oven lamps are built with special materials that can withstand a constant temperature of 300 °C. Using a regular bulb in an oven can cause:

  • The bulb to melt or break
  • Glass shards in the oven and food contamination
  • A fire hazard if the breaking glass touches hot parts

Always use a bulb specifically designed for ovens, even if a regular bulb fits the socket.

What is the difference between 230V E27 and 12V GY6.35 oven lamps?

Oven lights generally have one of the following configurations:

  • 230V E27 (this one): connects directly to the oven's electrical mains. More common in older ovens.
  • 12V GY6.35: the oven has an integrated transformer that converts 230 V to 12 V. More common in newer ovens.

Check your oven's user manual or the old bulb for:

  • Bulb voltage (230 V or 12 V)
  • Base size (E27 or GY6.35)
  • Maximum wattage (60 W is the most common)

Using the wrong bulb can damage the oven's lighting assembly.

Why is the oven lamp's service life so short?

The lifespan of incandescent bulbs is typically 1,000–2,000 hours — significantly shorter than that of an LED bulb (15,000–50,000 h). Oven lamps have additional limitations:

  • High temperature: Constant heat of 300 °C strains the structure of an incandescent bulb
  • Thermal shock: Rapid temperature changes (oven on/off) strain the filament
  • Incandescent technology: A shorter-lifespan technology compared to LED

In home use, an oven lamp typically lasts 1–3 years. We recommend keeping a spare bulb at home so that it can be replaced as soon as the light stops working.

Is there an LED alternative for an E27 oven bulb?

LED oven lamps are available in limited numbers, but most cannot withstand a constant 300 °C temperature like incandescent bulbs. LED technology suffers at high temperatures — the electronics get damaged and the service life is shortened dramatically.

Incandescent oven lamps remain the standard solution for oven lighting for the time being. Although their service life is shorter than that of LEDs, an oven lamp is only on during use — the actual number of operating hours in home use remains low, so an incandescent bulb typically lasts 1–3 years.
