BENY’s wireless data transmission device enables connecting an EV charging station to a load management unit without a data cable or WiFi network. The system consists of two separate units that communicate with each other wirelessly — one is placed in conjunction with the charging station, and the other with the load management unit. This is a practical solution for locations where cabling is difficult to install or WiFi connectivity is unreliable.

Required for use with BENY’s load management unit. Both units have their own power supply requirement. Data transmission: wireless (no WiFi, no Bluetooth). Installation by an electrician.

Compatibility and installation

System structure

The data transmission device consists of two separate units that establish a wireless data connection between the charging station and the load management unit:

  1. Charging station end: the first unit is placed in conjunction with the charging station and connected to it via a network cable (RJ45).
  2. Load management unit end: the second unit is placed in conjunction with the load management unit, requires its own power supply, and is connected to it via a network cable.

The units communicate with each other wirelessly — no need for a WiFi network or a separate data cable between the charging station and the load management unit.

When to choose the wireless option?

  • Long distance: the charging station and load management unit are far apart, and running a cable would be laborious (e.g., in a different building, behind several walls)
  • Difficult cable route: concrete walls, old structures, or behind a facade
  • Unreliable WiFi connection: the wireless transmission device is designed solely for this purpose, resulting in less interference than a general WiFi network

BENY system package

This device requires a BENY load management unit and a BENY charging station to function. Compatible BENY products:

  • BENY BCP series charging stations (e.g., 22 kW)
  • BENY load management unit (sold separately)

Check compatibility with your system from customer service or BENY’s technical documentation before purchasing.

Power supply

Both units require their own power supply. An electrician will take care of the wiring during installation. Usually, the units are connected to a nearby electrical distribution board or the charging station's own power supply.

Installation by an electrician

The installation of the data transmission device is part of the total connection of the charging system and may only be performed by a professional electrician. Installation includes:

  1. Physical placement of the units (protection from weather, reasonable distance for radio signal)
  2. Network cable (RJ45) connections to the charging station and load management unit
  3. Power supply connections for both units
  4. Pairing / testing of the units

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

Is BENY's wireless data transmission the same as WiFi?

No. The BENY wireless communication device uses its own radio connection designed for charging systems — not a standard WiFi network. This is a sensible solution because:

  • Reliability: a dedicated radio connection does not suffer from common WiFi interference (neighbors' WiFi, microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices)
  • Independence: does not require a housing company or household WiFi network to operate
  • Security: is not visible on the WiFi network as a potential target

This is especially useful for public charging stations or locations where reliable data transmission is critical.

When do I need a data transfer device?

A data transmission device is needed when a BENY charging station communicates with a BENY load management unit, but a communication cable cannot or should not be run between them. Typical reasons:

  • Distance: the charging station and load management unit are in different buildings or far apart
  • Difficult cable route: walls, concrete structures, or an old building where cabling is complicated
  • Flexibility: you want to maintain the option to move the units later

If cabling can be done easily, a direct wired connection is a simpler and more cost-effective solution. A wireless data transmission device is used when a wired connection is not practical.

Is a separate power supply required?

Yes. Both units of the data transmission device require their own power supply:

  • Charging station end: can use the charging station's own power source or a separate supply
  • Load management unit end: requires a separate power supply — usually from a nearby electrical distribution board

An electrician will take care of the connections during installation. This is one reason why you cannot install the data transmission device yourself — professional electrical wiring skills are required.

Do the units combine automatically?

The units are typically pre-paired at the factory so that they automatically find each other once both are powered on.

During installation, the electrician tests the connection and ensures that data communication between the charging station and the load management unit is working. If a connection is not established:

  • Check that both units are receiving power
  • Check the network cable (RJ45) connections
  • Reduce the distance between the units during the testing phase
  • Check that there is no strong radio interference in the environment

Installation instructions and detailed pairing instructions can be found in the BENY product documentation.
