Compatibility and installation

Suitable for: two conventional 58W T8 fluorescent tubes (G13 base, tube length 1500 mm). The ballast ignites without a separate starter — the wiring diagram differs from the old choke+starter system, so installation requires a professional.

LED compatibility: if you want to replace fluorescent tubes with LED tubes, choose LED tubes designed to work with an electronic ballast (ECG-compatible). Alternatively, you can bypass the ballast entirely and connect 230V directly to the G13 sockets — in that case, you need mains-voltage LED tubes.

Dimming: this model is not dimmable. For dimmable systems, you need a QTi-DIM or QTP-DIM series ballast and a compatible DALI or 1–10V dimmer.

Installation checklist:

  1. Ensure the fluorescent tubes are 58W T8 with a G13 base (not T5 or T12).
  2. Remove the old choke and starter from the luminaire.
  3. Use the Osram wiring diagram — the wiring changes compared to the old system.
  4. Always entrust the installation to a qualified electrician.

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

Which fluorescent tubes is this ballast compatible with?

Suitable for two T8 58W fluorescent tubes with a G13 base. The tube length is typically 1500 mm. Do not use with tubes of different wattages — only 58W is supported. T5 or T12 tubes are not compatible with this model.

Can LED tubes replace fluorescent tubes with this ballast?

Yes, but choose LED tubes that are marked as ECG-compatible (electronic control gear). Alternatively, you can bypass the ballast entirely and connect 230V directly to the G13 sockets — in that case, you need LED tubes that do not require an ECG. Bypassing requires a wiring modification and an electrician.

Is the ballast dimmable?

No. The QT-FIT8 is a fixed-output version. For dimmable systems, you need an Osram QTi-DIM or QTP-DIM series ballast as well as a compatible DALI or 1–10V dimmer.

How much energy is saved compared to an old ballast?

An electronic ballast typically saves 20–25% of energy compared to a traditional choke+starter system. In addition, the service life of the fluorescent tube increases by 30–50% because the electronic ballast ignites the tube gently without cold-start stress. In the long term, the savings usually pay back the ballast in 2–4 years.
